Quality Education:
From the Classroom to the Trades—Preparing the Next Generation
“Education isn’t about test scores—it’s about preparing kids to succeed. That means giving them choices, respecting teachers, and trusting parents. I’ve seen rural schools get ignored for too long. That changes with me.”
— Joshua T. Atkinson
Every child in Illinois deserves a quality education—regardless of their zip code. But too often, rural students get left behind while Springfield throws money at broken systems in big cities. Our teachers are overworked, our students under-supported, and career politicians keep making promises they never intend to keep.
Joshua T. Atkinson believes education is the backbone of a strong economy and a fair society. He’s seen what happens when young people are given real opportunity—and when they’re failed by the system.
The Problem: Unequal Funding, Lower Standards, and Forgotten Rural Schools
Illinois school funding is rigged to favor urban districts
Small-town schools face teacher shortages, crumbling buildings, and outdated materials
Trade and vocational programs are being cut while college is pushed as the only option
Parents have less say as politicians and special interests dictate classroom agendas
State mandates and red tape leave little room for local innovation or real-world education
While our kids lose ground, career politicians like Andrew Chesney vote safely, speak loudly—and do nothing.
Atkinson’s Plan: Empower Students, Parents, and Local Schools
1. Fix the School Funding Formula
Josh will fight to bring fairness to education funding—ensuring rural schools get their fair share to invest in teachers, classrooms, and modern learning tools.
2. Expand Trade and Technical Education
College isn’t the only path. Josh will restore and expand shop classes, agriculture programs, and skilled trade training so students graduate with options and confidence.
3. Support and Respect Teachers
Raise starting pay in rural districts, streamline certification for professionals entering teaching, and protect educators from unnecessary mandates that take them away from students.
4. Give Parents a Stronger Voice
Atkinson believes parents—not bureaucrats—should be at the center of their children’s education. He’ll support local curriculum control and transparency in what’s taught in classrooms.
5. Invest in Safe, Healthy Schools
No child should learn in a leaking classroom or unsafe facility. Josh will prioritize infrastructure grants and rural school modernization without new taxes.
A Leader Who Listens, Learns, and Leads
“Education isn’t about test scores—it’s about preparing kids to succeed. That means giving them choices, respecting teachers, and trusting parents. I’ve seen rural schools get ignored for too long. That changes with me.”
— Joshua T. Atkinson
Let’s Teach Our Way to a Stronger Future
Northwest Illinois students and teachers deserve leadership that values their work—not just during election season. Let’s fire the career politician and elect someone who knows education is an investment—not a talking point.
Joshua T. Atkinson will fight for education that works—for families, for employers, and for the future of District 45.
